Hi Folks,
As you may recall, some of us participated in a Stanford Venture Lab course, Designing A New Learning Environment, this past fall. This week the official results were posted and our team (we called it "Team Unplugged") won 4th place with our project : LocalFi. Team members you will recognize include: Tony Anderson, Caryl Bigenho, Christoph Derndorfer, Luis Galindo, Yama Ploskonka, Sebastian Silva, and Laura Vargus, We were joined by Claire Falk from Wisconsin, Michael Onobote from Nigeria, Felicia Palmer from Tennessee, and Chanel Williams from Florida. Steve Thomas was on a different team, with Rita Freudenberg, but stepped in to help our team with a vital video format conversion at the last minute.
If you would like to know more about our project, which we are still developing and growing, visit the new DNLE website at: http://dnle.stanford.edu Look in the top right hand corner to find the list of the top 10 projects and click on ours, "LocalFi." While you are there, you might like to look at some of the other projects that made the top 10 (based on peer voting). Some of them are open source, like ours. All are impressive.
What's happened since our project was turned in? Tony Anderson has been installing his system in Rwanda and now in Lesotho (for Janissa Balcom's project… you may have met her at the SF Summit) and Sebastian and Laura have been in the Amazon region installing his system. We have polled our team members and all want to continue working on our project.
And what's next for our project? We plan to completely redo our website ( http://localfi.org ) so that it can better accommodate a wide variety of curriculum resources usable by everyone… even those with internet. Tony has asked us to help with developing a Sugar based science curriculum for Janissa's project in Lesotho (of course it will be usable by everyone everywhere). We hope to incorporate as an ngo. And we are setting up a presence on Twitter and FaceBook, and will show some of our project at SCaLE 11X later this month.
If you would like to join our team and help make some of these things happen, send a private note to me at caryl at laptop.org
