Hi Folks….
Here is a link to a YouTube video about the Scratch programming language and what a 7th grade student has done with it. Pretty neat! The link was posted on Facebook by Pato Acevedo, an OLPC friend of mine from Chile (the video is in English).

If you would like to try Scratch yourself you can download it for free (of course, it's open source!) at:
http://scratch.mit.edu/
You can also see what others are doing all over the world with a library of over 2 million projects on their site and learn more about using Scratch with a lot of the info they have there. Scratch is great for kids, but adults will enjoy it too. Try it!
Incidentally, Scratch has been "Sugarized" and is included on all of our XO laptops and is on the SoaS Pineapple Live CD. It has been reported as slow to start there and you can't save your projects to the CD, so if you have an internet connection for the download, you will probably want to download it to your own computer.
Enjoy!
Caryl
P.S. International "Scratch Day" will be on Saturday May 19. Last year there was an event at CSUN. They haven't posted one yet, but perhaps they will be doing it again.
