[OLPC-Philippines] Helpful information and support

Hi Ryan,

Like Ray, let me thank you for the links you provided on the various information in evaluating  OLPC's deployments worldwide and in particular in Nepal and Harlem, USA.

Despite all the effort put in by Nicholas Negroponte and the many volunteers as well as financial support by a multitude of donors, there is still a lot of work to be done to improve on the implementation of the OLPC program. From these experiences, I get the understanding we need to do a lot of preparation before even doing a pilot deployment and make sure we capture all the key success factors not only in the initial deployment but its long-term sustainability. We will need the help of every volunteer available to make this possible.

Similar to the view of James, for me all this information just strengthens my confidence there is much value in using the OLPC program as envisioned by Nicholas Negroponte. However, even in the context that we use XO/ Sugar as the hardware/ software for our deployment, there is still a lot work to be done particularly on the content to be used and ensuring it addresses the needs of the student as well as the teacher.

Thanks.

Charles

My take-away from this is that evaluation should be built-in to the project plan.

Seems to underline the need for teacher-training and preparation of teaching materials.

Excellent evaluation, and brings out the success factors for a pilot project, including choice of school, involvement of parents and teachers, clear educational objectives and lots of support from the project proponents.

This is the 1st in a 3 part article about the XO laptop. This is actually a
good entry point for those who want a 5 minute overview of the philosophy
behind the technology:

Well, the One Laptop that we distribute Per Child could conceivably be some generic cheap-but-powerful netbook running Sugar 8^)

agreed, content is key.
