*OLPC and Sugar at DevCon Visayas*

Jerome will be Cebu Bound this week to attend DevCon and CebuICT2009 (June
26, 2009). He will participate in the lighting talk session to discuss OLPC
and Sugar. If you are in the area, please come see his riveting talk! And

*OLPC Discovery Session*

In coordination with Sagip Bata and members of the Singles for Christ,
Jerome will organize an OLPC discovery session with local educators and
developers. Although an agenda has not been set yet, two of the goals are to
spread awareness and elicit feedback. Depending on their schedules, the
meeting will most likely be held in July. If you are interested, please
contact Jerome.

*Tim Falconer, Founder of Waveplace and Squeakland – Agile Inspiration*

“Focus on the mission, not the vehicle (referring to the XO)!” - True words
of wisdom from the founder of Waveplace. Marife Mago, Cherry Withers, and
Ryan Letada skyped with Tim Falconer this past week to discuss Waveplace’s
vision, philosophy, deployment approaches, challenges, and curriculum. Other
buzz words/phrases include “Agile approach,” “etoys,” and “16-unit
curriculums.”

*The Mission – Meeting Update from June 14*

After an hour and a half of discussion, the mission is as follows:
"Our mission is to enhance educational opportunities through open source,
technological and learning innovations for the empowerment of the children
in the Philippines."

Discussion regarding the vision is still taking place. The *next meeting*,
which will take place on the *24th of June* (same time, same place) will
revolve around organization structure.
*Sagip Testbed – Meeting Minutes*

Mafe and Mel met to discuss the Sagip Testbed. Mafe is driving forward the
creation of a test bed in the Philippines to try out XOs, Sugar, and other
open-source educational technologies and curricula with Sagip kids at a
Gawad Kalinga (GK) village.
