Another thing to check is the Sugar Labs roadmap for Sugar itself.
Work for Sugar is now being made for other platforms like the eeePC
and ClassmatePC as well as other operating systems.

If you want a full environment in your existing OS, then you have to
use Sucrose (a lot of linux distros package this) or if you want the
disk image, get Starch.
