My personal copy (offline) is also complete at 2425 strings. At this point in the email, I have no idea if there was a complete 4412-string translation which somehow was truncated, or if the file in /vi only ever had a 2425-string file.

Neither is a good result. When you finally get to 100% on a translation of that size, you really hope that:

1. 100% means 100%

2. none of it goes missing

... (pause while I check my HDD) ...

I always download a backup copy after a translation session on Pootle. Having reached "100%", I overwrote my previous copy.

... (pause while I check my backup disk) ...

Leafing through the copies of that file throughout this month, I find that at some point on 2010-03-09, the file was severely truncated. It actually stops in the middle of a string:

Pootle must have cleaned that last string up somehow: I don't think it can display a half-string.

As to how the file became truncated, I did download it around that time to do some overall editing, because it was a very messy translation then. Either I somehow truncated it myself, or it was truncated during the subsequent overwrite upload to Pootle. Although I frequently make mistakes, judging by past experience it's unlikely that I managed to delete half a very large file without noticing. So I'm inclining towards an interrupted overwrite at this point.

This will teach me to keep track of the total number of strings in a file when I start translating it. :(

I don't think we lost a lot of time and effort when the file was truncated, because at that stage it was only partly translated. However, it means eToys is NOT fully-translated into Vietnamese at the point of release, and I could have been working on it meanwhile to complete it.

Please tell me where the current eToys POT file is, so I can merge it with my current translation and apply my translation memory, to save some time (my TM is much larger than Pootle's). I hope I can get it finished reasonably soon.
