Hi All,
I would like to announce that a GUI layout editor has just been made available,
http://simos.info/blog/archives/750

The program allows you to create or edit existing layouts in a graphical way,
simply by dragging and dropping Unicode characters.

It is currently targeted to XKB keyboard layouts.

For some complex needs, such as

a. compose sequences that produce more than one Unicode character,
you need to specify separately, since the configuration file is different.
This includes cases where you have diacritic marks and you want them
to be applied
similarly to the way dead keys are applied.
b. generic cases where you want a string to be printed when you press
a single key, as in
<asterisk> : "Hey, you just pressed the * key!"
Useful for complex scripts.

these need to be handled by hand for now.
