[olpc-help] Opera and other Linux software

Two questions:

1.  I have installed Opera and occasionally get notices when I log onto it  
that there is an update to Opera available.  Do those updates also work  
with the XO and if so, how do I install them once I download them?

2. Will any Linux software work any the XO assuming it doesn't use to much  
space? I am thinking specifically of TreePad lite?
