[olpc-help] Keyboard issues - stuck keys, keys registering erroneously

I also have a keyboard issue, jbike. Mine is variable but consistent - there is always something wrong with the keyboard. Sometimes no keys work. Sometimes a function-type key is stuck (alt/alt gr) making the keys that work all alternate characters like the greek alphabet and euro ones.

I ran the keyboard diagnostic referenced in the "is a key stuck" on the support FAQ and discovered at least once when no keys worked, another time when several different keys stuck at different times (the alt key would come on and off sticky with no action from me, other keys would stick when pressed, but then usually come off with multiple additional presses.)

I have looked through the warranty and believe this qualifies http://laptopgiving.org/en/warranty.php - I will be calling the 800 number to obtain an RMA and hope against hope that the problem persists when it is checked by the technicians. It is frustrating because it is not always the same problem (sticky keys vs. no keys working.) Have you tried just restarting the GUI? ctl+alt+erase restarts just the interface, quicker than rebooting and a reboot is not always necessary on Linux. It didn't make any difference to me, but it may for you.

Good luck!

(PS, also have these for my kids - a 6 yr old and a 4 yr old. Unfortunately, it's the 6 yr old's that is broken. He's devastated!)
