My ActionTec M1424WR was set on "Automatic." I learned this by following
these steps:
1. Go to your Browser, and type in 192.168.1.1
2. Screen will open, and you will need to insert "User Name" and
"Password."
The Default response would be -- admin -- password
Since I had inserted my own personal User Name and Password at the time of
router setup, this was the info I employed.
3. New screen will open. Along the top you will spot "Wireless Settings."
Select that category.
4. Along the left side you will see a column. Choose 'Basic Security
Settings."
5. Look for Section.....3. Channel: ______________ Mine depicted
"Automatic." This rotated eleven channels. It was suggested
by another Support FAQ Member to only have one. I couldn't locate that
hint that had described this task, so I just chose "1."
[Do not type in the quotes.]
6. Click the "Apply" button.
When I returned to the XO Laptop's Home Page, chose Neighborhood the
circle representing my Internet Connection was visible.
Once it was selected, I believe that it was necessary to type in my Key.
The Default shows: Passphrase. The drop-down menu
was used, and the Hex (64-bit) was selected. My Key was inserted into the
space. Voila! Success!

XO's home page, but cannot even type a query when I open up the browser.
Clicking on links takes me nowhere also. I'm willing to try changing to
Channel 6, but I haven't got a clue how to do it. Are the directions
something that can be typed easily or would it be a labor-intensive reply?
I'd appreciate the help if possible. I love my little XO, but it's pretty
limited until I can get online.

>> Hi. For what it's worth, a friend of mine had the same problem with an
Actiontec router. His was on channel 9, and I asked him to switch to
channel 6. He had to reboot the router afterward, but it's now working
(before, the OLPC wouldn't find the router). Perhaps try changing channels
as well via the router's admin interface (I recommend channels 6 or 11)
