 When we last looked at pulseaudio, it was in its early days and it caused
 our music composition applications (e.g. TamTam) to perform very badly
 with lots of crackly sound. That was on XO-1.5. On XO-1, it even failed to
 start.

 You are right, it is probably worth reevaluating now that it is more
 mature, and it would indeed be nice to be closer to Fedora and the linux
 ecosystem in general. You may have just found yourself a project :)

 However, we do have an impending release (11.2.0) which is now in
 stabilization stages, so if we are to fix this bug in the short term then
 we can't consider something as invasive as pulseaudio. If there is a quick
 option to fix portaudio, we should take it.
