 Agree -- design and effort needed. However, I think the fsck is getting
 triggered on the first mount, which is done by the initramfs code itself
 well before bindmount+chroot. The "first dot" appears before the mount
 AFAICT.

 If we could test for cleanness, then the initramfs code could run fsck
 explicitly, controlling the options, showing a nice UI etc... (does
 tune2fs report it?)
