 at least two different C1 laptops (one sku D3 (os unknown), one SKU D5
 (os105)) running the dortc script (which loops, sleeping for 20 seconds,
 and rtcwake'ing for 240 seconds) have eventually exhibited these symptoms:

  - the screen displays sugar, instead of the VT on which the test was
 started.
  - the keyboard is functional (arrow keys select between view icons,
 ctrl-1 and ctrl-2 select views, grab keys cause the touchpad to scroll),
 but ctrl-alt-F1 doesn't change to VT.
  - on one unit, starting Terminal (or any other activity) will not
 complete. on the other unit (D5, no.183) one can that alt-ctrl-F1 key
 generates
 {{{
    ^[O1;7P
 }}}
 (that's ESC capital-O digit-1 semicolon digit-7 capital-P).

 F2 generates the same, except for 'Q' instead of 'P'.

 on an unaffected laptop, these are all of course trapped much earlier, and
 cause VT switches, rather than generating characters at all.
