Comment:

 sayamindu -- does this symptom look familiar to you?  what sort of
 keyboard map breakage would cause the F-keys to do this?  i should add
 that the "multiply" key generates nothing, and that the F-key row, pushed
 without modifiers, generates:

 ESC O P    ESC O Q     ESC O R    ESC O S    ESC [ 15 ~   ESC [ 17 ~
 ESC [ 18 ~
 }}}

 after that, kbdshim grabs the brightness and volume keys, the double-
 rectangle key emits nothing, and the frame key functions normally.
