> Mikus -- I tried about a dozen times, and I cannot repro. The new code
tries to switch to the right VT several times, so even if something
switches away, it will get switched back again.

something takes us back to VT1, the code switches correctly to the VT with
the UL graphic. It has never failed to shutdown here.

I did a 'copy-nand' of file
http://dev.laptop.org/~martin/8.2.2-betas/os802B1.img. This file is
543817728 bytes, dated 2009-12-04 10:42 (its download md5 sum matches).
/boot/olpc_build says 802B1
As I said, I'm seeing the shutdown process stall (on four different
machines) on at least 1/4 of the occasions when I enter 'shutdown -r now'
in Terminal while root.
I can think of at least two differences between my systems and Martin's
systems -- I customize the software, plus I use external hardware.
Currently I'm testing with a 'virgin' G1G1 system (it still had build 650
!), on which I installed q2e41 and build 802B1 -- but did NOT apply my
software customizations. I *am* still getting the stall (without showing
the U/L warning, so that I have to press ctl-alt-F2 in order for the
shutdown to complerte) on this 'near-virgin' system -- that in my mind
eliminates the changes I make to the software.
I've been keeping track only since Martin said he is not seeing the
problem. So far, I have not seen this problem when there have been no
external (USB) devices present (from start of boot to finish of
shustdown). When I enter the 'shutdown -r now' command *at* the external
USB keyboard, I randomly get the ticket #9943 stalls in the shutdown
process.
