Comment(by Quozl):

 I didn't think the hardware supports either MIDI or FM. ''/proc/asound''
 shows only waveform interfaces.

 !TamTam generates an audio waveform using ''csound'', which then sends it
 to ALSA. ''lsof'' of an active !TamTam instance shows ''/dev/snd'' inodes
 open.

 The inferior sound could quite easily be explained by #10235, which is in
 the 10.1.2 release notes. That ticket is still open and in the 10.1.3
 milestone, but there has been no progress. If it is #10235, then close
 this as duplicate after your testing.

 I suggest that when you test, also include coverage of:
  * use of ear buds vs internal speakers, (this helps to eliminate the
 variation in performance of the internal speakers),
  * 10.1.2 vs 8.2.1 as used on XO-1, (the someone may have detected a
 regression in !TamTam),
  * the amixer levels, (to compensate for the known kernel tuning problem
 in #10235),

 It would also be helpful to ask Adam to put you in contact with someone.
