 a) Set default runlevel to 3 in /etc/inittab

 b) Start system

 c) Get shell on serial port and type "telinit 5"

 d) X will often hang the system partway through painting the sugar screen.
 If it doesn't hang then, type the frame key a few times to make it hang.

 When it hangs, the serial console is unresponsive.

 If you start directly to X via inittab, then "telinit 3" and "telinit 5",
 no hangs.
