 Weirdness #1 and #2 have always been problems in the code.  Indeed, they
 will be fixed by #6995.

 Weirdness #3 is for eben :).

 Weirdness #4 is seems weird to me, too.

 Weirdness #5 sounds like NM 0.6 issues (see
 http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/devel/2008-August/017686.html ).
