Comment(by Eben):
I believe that the color situation has already been taken care of at this
point, with APs receiving stroke and fill colors based on a hash of the
essid.
I think that making the mesh view of two kids appear roughly the same,
however, is a near impossibility. This assumption is based in part upon
the fact that any configurations shown while on a mesh will be impossible
to sync up with everyone else, and with others as the topology changes.
More directly, though, future changes to the Neighborhood view for
scalability will mean that different kids may see different default sets
of objects in the view, which will require different layouts to display.
The best I could offer for semi-deterministic placements of APs, given
knowledge of the current algorithm for laying out objects such that they
don't overlap, is to place an added weight (with falloff) on the location
determined by the hash of the essid. In this manner, it will be more
likely (but not guaranteed) that an AP will appear in roughly the same
spot each time. Still, this could be an improvement over what we have
now.
Another option, also interesting, would be to approximate their distance
to the center of the screen based on their signal strength, so weak ones
appear farther away. With this approach, it will be likely that the best
AP to pick will always appear near the center.
