 When mousing over an item in the ring, its popup menu frequently covers
 the next item, requiring an awkward maneuver of going outside the ring,
 waiting for the menu to disappear, and then clicking on the desired icon
 without touching the icon on its upper left.

 If popup menus appeared on the radial outward side of the cursor for each
 ring item, this overlap would be 90% eliminated, substantially increasing
 the usability of the ring.  By radial outward side I mean only that there
 should be 4 different popup geometries, one in each quadrant of the ring.
