 i think i understand what's going on, since i reproduced it -- if you have
 no activities installed at all (nothing in /usr/share/activities or
 ~olpc/Activities), then "List view" looks a lot like "Favorites view"
 except for the lack of an XO icon in the middle.

 i can't guarantee this is what i saw, but i'll bet it was.

 summary:  an empty List view should probably be just a little less empty.
