 while working on #7968, got sugar into a state where the "XO guy"
 disappeared completely.  all other views seemed to appear correct, and the
 top line of the home view appeared correct.  when switching to the home
 view, the XO guy would appear briefly, then hide again.

 i've saved the complete contents of /home/olpc/.sugar/default in case this
 is useful.  restarting sugar ("killall olpc-dm" from console) brought the
 fugitive back.

 (release is a fresh install of joyride-2301)
