 Sorry for side-tracking the ticket but:

 Eben, will you stick with the play icon for the details button?

 Of my ideas, I prefer number 2 (with a respective tooltip/palette saying
 "View in Detail").
 I think it is important to design a better icon, because I think object
 palletes should also have the action to look at their detailed view in the
 Journal, and both actions should use the same icon.

 Also, the play icon is used in thousands of devices which use it to
 signify "play" (music/video).
