Comment(by HoboPrimate):

 I suggest that the palettes (which serve as tooltips for the buttons)
 change acordingly in this manner.

    1 - When no change has been made: Cross button with palette saying
 "Close" and a unsensitive Check button.

    2 - When a change has been made: Cross button with palette saying
 "Cancel Changes" and Check button with palette saying "Accept Changes".

 This will avoid kids to wrongly press accept after they have done a change
 thinking it will just close the CP with no changes, when they have in fact
 made some or forgot about it.

 Alternatively, every change made could be highlighted. For example,
 changing the Jabber server would get a rectangle around that entire option
 colored in a way to show it is yet a temporary change until the kid
 "Accepts" or "Cancel". You might even make the rectangle be colored with
 the kids XO colors, and do the same with the Check "Accept" button, so as
 to associate both.
