 Being wasteful of memory in userspace is irrelevant here.  It's
 fragmentation that's the issue.  I tested this a bit last week and even
 when there was _30MB_ free in top, the camera couldn't start due to (what
 I assume was) fragmentation.  If the buffers didn't need to be contiguous
 that would have worked.
