Comment:

 One solution may be to add a "minimum memory required" tag to the
 activity.info file where sugar refuses to launch the activity and notifies
 the user somehow if that amount isn't free before launching.  There's
 still a race here between when sugar launches the process, and when the
 activity actually fails (or in Record's case when it starts displaying
 live video).  But this could help narrow the window.
