 Ok there was a bit of confusion on my part.  I did not realize that
 alsamixer was not displaying all of the mixer options.  The one key one I
 was missing was Capture.  Thus in moving the db up and down I did notice a
 change in MIC pick-up but even when I slide the db to 0 on Capture and
 muted the MIC and MIC boost I still was able to record sound.  I am now
 using build 641 and was using the Record activity, which is very different
 from the 625 build.  But in any case mute is still no functioning. I am
 using the internal MIC and have noted testing the MIC line-in port.

 Also I am unsure the differences between MIC, MIC boost and Capture.
 Actually MIC boost I do understand and it appear to work in my testing.
 Basically Capture and MIC boost appear to effect recorded sound.
