I'm testing on a newly arrived BTest-4 machine. Both 406.14 (come with B4)
and 406.15 (updated) OS images are checked.
After copying a CJK true-type font to /usr/share/fonts/., the web and
write app can display CJK fonts correctly. However, the performance of it
is terrible bad. I can hardly open http://tw.yahoo.com ,
http://www.google.com.tw/ig . That of 406.15 os seems to be slightly
better but still bad: http://news.yahoo.com.tw will keep CPU 100% loaded
for 30s~1m and page up/down would take 3+ sec. Similar problem also
happens for Japanese pages with tons of text (w/ few images). Web pages
refreshing with lots of text in english is also slow but not so
significant. One can easily reproduce the problem with following two
pages:
http://web.mit.edu/yenjie/www/lm/physics/phys-field-string-2.htm (chinese
page by my friend)
http://wiki.fdiary.net/font/?stolenbitmap (japanese text only)
Also fonts can use the FC6 CJK fonts (checked some already) or d/l from
here:
ftp://ftp.opendesktop.org.tw/odp/ODOFonts/OpenFonts/opendesktop-
fonts-1.4.2.tar.gz
I'm not sure if the web browser app. uses Cairo to render fonts, but it
has a significant performance impact on my daily used thinkpad notebook
running FC5. Not sure if this is of the same cause. I've tried firefox
2.0.0.5 tar-ball on XO and didn't met this problem.
