> No, you don't remove European-culture-based symbols any more than you'd
remove English support. The European-culture-based symbols are quite
correct throughout most of the world. Symbols need to be localized. You
can use an upward arrow in East Asia and a rightward arrow in the Middle
East. The leftward arrow is correct everywhere else.
You're right; I just didn't think it was "possible" (i.e. already
supported in a not-so-hard way) to localize icons.
[private] That's great, as the "text" icon in my vector-based image editor
was getting into an obsession. I'm still wondering how that's done with
Gnome/GTK, for the stock icons.
