 One more update: I tried using a different power adapter today, this time
 from my wireless router (12V / 1A), which I noticed matched the specs of
 my XO's charger (12V / 1.42A) pretty closely.  The plug didn't fit quite
 right, so I had to hold it in place a little skew, but it charged
 correctly.  olpc-logbat gave me a positive charge rate, and the laptop
 will boot off just that cable with no battery.

 Now I swear that I checked my green power adapter twice, both times giving
 12V out.  It still charges, but at that same extremely slow rate, while
 the other one charges correctly.  I can't see how this situation makes any
 sense.

 My laptop has finally finished charging up to ~100% (though the light
 never switches from orange to green).  I just registered to get a
 developer key, with the intention of resetting the EC, as referenced here:
