 Further testing as follows:
 1. Boot without USB key.
 2. Insert USB key.
 3. Go to Journal activity.
 4. Note that Journal bottom border exists and has Journal and USB icons at
 left.
 5. Remove USB key.
 6. Note that Journal bottom border and icons disappear.
 7. Insert USB key.
 8. Note that Journal bottom border still is absent.
 This test plugged the USB key before ever going to the Journal activity.
