#5663: USB does not show in Journal
--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------
 Reporter: rbh00 | Owner: jg
     Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone: Never Assigned
Component: distro | Version: Build 653
 Keywords: | Verified: 0

--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------
I chatted with neuralis on irc.freenode.net:#olpc about this. I was on
650 and it failed. He asked me to upgrade to 653. That went smoothly.
 It still fails.

 To reproduce:
 1. Insert USB key in right vertical USB slot
 2. Boot
 3. Go to Journal activity.
 4. Note that Journal has bottom border with two icons on its left:
 Journal icon and USB icon.
 5. Unplug USB key
 6. Note that Journal bottom border goes away. Both Icons vanish with the
border. Journal appears as if there had never been a border.
 7. Replug USB key.
 8. Note that the Journal remains without a bottom border.

 How reproducible:
Darn near every time. One time when I umplugged the USB key (step 5
above) the bottom border remained in place, with BOTH icons (Journal, USB)
despite that there was no plugged USB at the time. In that attempt,
replugging and unplugging the USB caused the Journal bottom border to
 vanish, and it remained vanished.

The USB key mounts properly, according to the Terminal activity, and it
is usable for writing and reading files. The filesystem is vfat. I used
the key to copy over and install os653.

neuralis asked me to add shell.log and datastore.log from
/home/olpc/.sugar/default/logs to this error report. datastore.log is an
empty file. I have attached shell.log.
