Luis was asking recently about this, so here are my notes.
While I haven't tested it, I don't think the XS images install on the
XO "as is", there are a few problems that would need to be resolved,
and are quite time-consuming to fix. It is in my plans to fix it, but
it will take some time. However, if you are prepared to have an XO
with an external USB HD as your setup, you can probably make it work
with this recipe:
- Install the XS image on a regular machine.
- Move the HD to a USB enclosure.
- Boot the XO from USB.
- Perhaps re-run the /etc/sysconfig/olpc-scripts/network_config
script (with a parameter of "1").
It will take a bit of work to get the XO to boot from USB properly
(the xo must be unlocked) and grub.conf and /etc/fstab on the
installed OS will need some tweaking to boot properly.
Samy Boutayeb said he was working on getting the XS images to install
properly on an XO. Samy - how are things going with your efforts? Have
you got patches for the kickstart files we are using?
cheers,
martin
