Yes, please do document it, but add a note that it's not a recommended
procedure :-)
The reasons are two
- General unsupported "an xs update will probably break it in the
near future" as per our earlier discussion
- We don't really want to setup generic SMTP email on the XS.
Exposure to the world, being the destination or source of viagra spam,
plus lots of other reasons to - at least initially - prefer a walled
garden approach in this regard. Within each school Moodle itself has a
messaging system that works reasonably well as an initial "walled
garden" email-like facility for kids. The plan on this will very
likely evolve, but for the first stage of the XS, SMTP email won't be
there for normal users on the XS.
We might still use SMTP's great store-and-forward support for other
things -- getting reports to the NOC and stuff like that.
