This deserves its own page, not just a discussion on another page.

Martin and I got started in this direction when talking to NYC,
but I don't think we wrote anything down.

I suggest taking as a basic premise that such a large school (system)
will already have basic networking services (WiFi APs, DHCP, DNS,
content filtering and caching) up and running.

In this case, we need a few entries in the DNS table pointing to the
server, and services running on one or more servers.

The current list of services needed beyond basic networking is
quite small:
- Identity service
- Presence service (ejabberd)
- Web service (possibly already provided by the school ?)

I'm sure Martin is working hard to increase this :-)

I'm told that there are problems scaling our current ejabberd
setup past 300 students, but collabora is working on a fix
which will have the side effect of letting us use any XMPP server,
instead of being locked into ejabberd.
