Nils, I apologize that your message somehow got lost in the  
moderation system

To answer your question:

"Nice" loses when "cheap" and "low-power" become involved.   And a  
video display
costs as much as the target price for the school server.

But, there will be more than one school server hardware platform.    
Development will
happen on machines with graphics units, and school servers in more  
urban environments
may have graphics capabilities.

However, nothing intended for use in deployments should rely on an  
attached keyboard or display.

You WILL be able to run an X-server on another machine, and run the  
clients on the school server.
The recommended user interface, however, is web-based.   This allows  
access from the widest
range of clients (XO laptops, PCs, etc.)
