Eventually it would make sense to trace down some papers f.e. here
http://www.sciencedirect.com/
(Search for "nickel metal hydride charging" or "Ni-MH charging")

and then ask one of the authors of the papers (or an author of
a paper that is cited there) whether he could give recommendations.

Unfortunately access to that article database is not free
(seems $30 per paper) although certainly quite a few of the
articles will have received public funding.
