UDL and free food in Kendall Sq!

If you are working on content for the XO an understanding of Universal
Design for Learning is a must! This would also be a great place to recruit
volunteers. I can't make it,its my class night but I hope someone from the
community can go.

cheers,
Caroline

Abstract:
This talk will cover the basics of Universal Design for Learning and
show how applying principles of UDL to the design of electronic books
can transform plain text documents into learning tools. We will show a
examples from CAST’s (Center for Applied Special Technology) digital
learning environments and compare to current trends in eBook interface
design.

Bio:
Boris Goldowsky is responsible for CAST's technology strategy and
manages the organization’s system architecture, the design of modules
and prototypes, and conducts ongoing research and development in next
generation technologies. He is also CAST’s representative to the
standards-setting working group for the DAISY (Digital Accessible
Information System) digital talking book standard and a member of the
NIMAS (National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard)
Standards Board.

Lisa Spitz, Director of Design, is responsible for planning and
supervising the design of CAST’s universally designed learning
environments, public facing websites, and organizational print
collateral. With expertise in human-centered design principles and
methodologies, she is passionate about enriching CAST led research
prototypes through design-based research, a process through which
iterative design cycles and interaction with students and teachers
informs final design solutions. Lisa Spitz holds a B.A. in Psychology
and Graphic Arts from Regis College, and a M.Des. in Interaction
Design from Carnegie Mellon University.
