Great feedback Daniel.... All contributors we look forward to assistance in
improving the proposal to meet the standards as per the below.

Subject: Re: [Olpc-uk] My feedback on the proposal

Also, I just spoke briefly with Adam Holt who heads up the
contributors program, the desired source of laptops.

He stated clearly that the contributors program is for projects that
give back to the global OLPC community and that proposals are weighed
on these terms. e.g. see the big bold bit here:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Contributors#FAQ

He also pointed out that this has worked a few times in the past that
2 laptops have been given to a pilot project, and once they've
produced and shared some real deliverables then they get sent 20 more.
The important part being that they proved themselves to be real
community contributors before being handed over a lot of laptops.

Also, has Martin mentioned his involvement in a "XO science link"
project between a UK school and a school in Uganda? It could be good
to see how the OLPC UK group we have here can help with that too, and
if successful this would be a credibility kick.

Finally it would be possible to get feedback from the people who
review the applications on a draft proposal, hopefully Adam included.
Link to it from http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Projects and then mail
contributors at laptop.org requesting a review. Possibly also remind them
in their meetings (see the CP wiki page for details) if it is
overlooked. I think it is a bit too early for a review now, but once
some of the TBD items are well underway then we should do this.

So... it's all about giving back to the worldwide community
demonstrating commitment to sharing and being a good community citizen
before receiving laptops, and having a strong proposal. These people
don't care so much about the prospect of there being a large number of
laptops in the UK in future as a result of the project; instead they
care about strong content and deliverables coming out of and being
openly shared from the small number of laptops being given in response
to the proposal.

Daniel
