[Olpc-socal] Do We Want an XO Library for OLPC-SoCal?

Hi Folks,

I have a quick question for you. Would there be interest in having a small XO lending library for the OLPC-SoCal group? We can apply for about 10 machines for this. We could check them out to list members for reasonable lengths of time to explore and try the Sugar software, and the XO in general.

Currently I have been checking out some of the machines I have for my "Roadshow Project." Last week I checked out machines to the 3 volunteer advisors for the Audubon Middle School project. I am really impressed with all of the interesting things they are discovering as they experiment with the XOs and put the software through it's paces. I expect many of you could also come up with some really interesting and useful things if you had a chance to play with one of the machines for a while.

To do this, we would need to have someone on the list who is fairly centrally located who could serve as "librarian." List members could arrange to check out and return the machines from the librarian for specific lengths of time.

I would volunteer to be librarian but, since I live in Montana for 4-5 months a year and travel a lot, I'm just not here enough to do it right. I can, however, help answer questions via the web as needed and can help someone set up the check out system (just use the forms I already have for the Roadshow machines).

What do you all think? Do we have any volunteers to help with this project? I would like to get an application for this turned in by early next week as there is an online meeting to review applications at the end of next week.
