Hi SoCal Open Source and OLPC/XO/Sugar enthusiasts!
Lots of great news and info...
First of all, congratulations are in order to Divinity Barkley for getting her OLPC Contributors Program project going full swing with 10 XO-1s now in Uganda where a group of students from USC will be working this summer with laptops and children in the Amagezi Gemaanyi Youth Association. Here is a link to their Facebook page:

And a link to their project page on the OLPC wiki:

If you scroll down that page, you will see what their winning Contributors Program project proposal looked like. If you have an idea you would like to have considered for the Contributors Program, here is a link to info about how to do that:

Be sure to see all the different types of proposals that have been approved! You don't have to be a developer to apply.
More good stuff.... If you don't have an XO but would like to try the Sugar Software on your intel based PC or Mac (not Power Macs, alas), there are several great new options for you.
Three versions of Sugar to download to a usb stick and use on your computer (a boot helper disk is needed to do this on a Mac. If you need help, ask!):
Version 1 Strawberry (very stable, good for all users)

Version 2 Blueberry (also suitable for everyone... has more Activities)

And for adventurous developer-types who want to help beta-test the newest
Version 3 Mirabelle (that's a kind of plum)

More exciting stuff is coming soon!
Caryl
