Mafe Mago and I finally met in person today, thanks to her trip to Boston!

We spent a decent portion of that time with Mafe catching me up on the
IRC meeting, since I missed that and hadn't (yet) read the logs.

Then we talked about Mafe's project - she's driving forward the creation
of a testbed in the Philippines to try out XOs, Sugar, and other
open-source educational technologies and curricula with Sagip kids at a
Gawad Kalinga (GK) village.

The project page has links and details for what GK and Sagip are, but
basically, GK is a Filipino NGO that helps slum villages rebuild
themselves with decent housing and a self-governing community, and Sagip
is a program within that which provides after-school activities and
tutoring for the children ages 7-13 in a GK village. Mafe has been
working with the Meralco chapter of Singles For Christ (SFC) on this
village in other areas, including Sagip, for a while already; the
testbed within the Sagip program is the part that's new, and is just
starting.

Everything is here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Projects/GK_Sagip_Pilot
(It's by no means complete, but it's a start).

The next step is to apply for XOs through the Contributors' Program,
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Contributors_program, and the application is
already being taken care of, so at the moment I believe this is more of
a "Mafe will let us know when they need help, which will be soon, but in
the meantime, stay tuned!"

We then commiserated about the lack of decent mangoes in New England.

Please holler with any questions or suggestions on how to improve these
notes.

PS: Kendall Square is absolutely packed with Filipinos, here for the GK
summit. It was pretty cool to see. :)
