1. My apologies (for welcoming Ray a second time)
My apologies for not remembering Ray joined the group back in January.
I normally can recall the people in the group who regularly participate in the discussions we have. Its just my memory is slowly failing me. At the same time except for the few familiar names of people I constantly see in the discusssion sometimes I feel the current OLPC PH volunteer group do not exceed the number of my fingers. But I continue to hope the silent majority are still there actively reading ours discussions and thinking over how they can make a positive contribution to the OLPC program.
2. RSVP on Get Together
For the information of all (Ryan you may like to share the information of how many people are in this distribution list) the following people have advised me of their attendance to the Get Together on 28 June (4pm) at Starbucks Greenbelt:
- Myself
- John Imbong
- Ray Baquirin
- Hamilton Chua
- Marvin Dona
Sandeep Chandiramani, Ryan Letada and Jerome Gotangco have given me their apologies of their absence due to previous commitments made for the same day.
I am still waiting for one more volunteer to confirm his attendance but other than that this is it.
I will see whether we can get a conference room at Ascot for our meeting and inform you on my success on getting this booking.
Thanks.
Charles

Hi, Charles,
I introduced myself to the list in this post back in January:
http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/olpc-philippines/2009-January/000414.html
and was warmly welcomed by Jerome and Naz.
I'm a faculty member in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology of Asia Pacific College, teaching the introductory programming sequence. We currently use Java for this, after trying C and C++ and a few other languages. Before that I worked for 20 years in the industry on IBM midrange machines (= AS/400, using mostly RPG). Along the way I got an MComp from Monash Uni, where I was introduced to Smalltalk and Scheme.
I have followed the OLPC project with interest since its inception and welcomed the chance to participate in the project once it started here. Jerome suggested that I might do something with e-toys and Squeak, and I would love to get back into Smalltalk, even if it's been 17 years since I looked at Smalltalk code. I am also interested in developing educational materials whether in Smalltalk or Flash or other appropriate technology for teaching computer programming to children--here I'm thinking of my son who will be 11 next month. I want him to have a solid foundation in programming (and of course I want the same thing for all the kids out there).
I should add (in response to another recent thread) that my son is in Xavier School and (as a parent) I would love for him to be using the XO and/or Sugar in his learning actvities. If Ateneo becomes an institutional partner of OLPC I submit that Xavier School would be a good choice for a pilot project 8^).
This is getting rather long so I'll stop.
See you at the meeting (DV),
Ray

Hi Ray,
How long have you been a member? Welcome to the OLPC PH group! I am assuming you are a member and no one welcomed you yet.
Please me something about yourself, what you do at APC, what made you interested in the OLPC program and how you can help.
I look forward to meeting you at the get-together.
Thanks.
Charles

Hi, Charles,
I'm looking forward to attending the meeting (I missed the first one because of work).? The original schedule is fine with me but if you reschedule to a weekday evening I'm pretty sure I can fit that in.
