Ciao Bernie!

It's an honor to meet you :)

As a situationer, things are still a bit preliminary at this point re:
OLPC Philippines.

There were plans to do a pilot in a school in Aklan (where the famous
Boracay beach is located) c/o Mike Kouklis, but AFAIK it did not push
through. There was another one that was proposed for Don Bosco
Technical College, but some of us are not updated about the progress
in that regards. (Charles? How are the plans for the pilot for Don
Bosco going?)

One of the things that have been talked about and we're leaning
towards to is for whatever pilot to be launched is to start in a
private school laboratory environment where there are enough
IT-trained staff to support the program, integrate into the
curriculum, and evaluate the effectivity of the program and then to
knowledge-transfer the experience for future deployments in broader
areas and public schools. Another concern is security as these are
still very expensive machines and each cost more than the average
Filipino's take-home monthly pay.

Anyway, most of us are meeting up at the end of January to discuss the
status and direction of the grassroots efforts over here and we'll
keep everyone updated!

All the best,

-Naz

P.S. Happy goodbye George W. week everyone! ;) heheh
