I am forwarding this message because it wasn't only circulated in
Nepal-specific mailing lists circulated and I want to clarify the status
of OLPC in Nepal.

Recently, the NGO OLPC Nepal disbanded when most of the team members
resigned citing issues w/ OLPC Boston's management

I don't know the status of the pilot launched by OLPC Nepal at Jana
Jyoti school, which was launched on March 27th.

I hope to visit the school soon and check it out for myself.

The NGO OLPC Nepal should not be confused w/ the larger OLPC community
in Nepal nor the NGO OLE Nepal that is implementing the Bishwamitra and
Bashuki pilots. Both of the pilots are doing exceptionally well. The
OLPC community here is also doing well. One of our biggest challenges
right now is managing people who want to help volunteer for this
project.

The real losers here are the kids, who have gotten their hopes up and
now their isn't an organization to support them. I would love to help
out but am currently maxed out w/ with the Bishwamitra and Bashuki
pilots.

I myself have had a rocky relationship w/ the NGO OLPC Nepal but it has
been great getting to know those guys. I was one
of the original founders of OLPC Nepal. While myself and much of the
current OLE Nepal team left OLPC Nepal back in July of 2007 under
unhappy circumstances, I am still
proud of what we accomplished together.

Subject: Thank you all!

It's been a great experience working all-time with OLPC Nepal for about
2
years. We got the Government put OLPC in their yearly plans, raise much
awareness about giving children opportunities for a quality learning
experience with a free and open platform etc. We would like to thank you
all
for giving me the opportunity to work with you to do all what we have
done,
for every support and encouragements.

With recent developments in OLPC including change in leadership and
organizational structure , which we do not subscribe to, we have decided
to
take break from OLPC.

Our goal remains to create an environment to use free and open platform
and
the technology for learning. We hope to continue working with the great
team
for this goal.

Shankar and Ankur (ShAnkur)
