Congratulations to the One Laptop Per Child project for reaching the point that a date to begin accepting orders could be announced. The date of Nov. 12 sounds good because the most recent weekly report posted by Walter Bender (http://wiki.laptop.org/go/News) indicates that at least two or three weeks of additional testing and bug fixing would help a lot before beginning mass production.
I hope that the project will produce a number of video documentaries that demonstrate the capabilities of the XO laptop, and will publish them at youtube.com. I have entered my email address at xogiving.org, and will feel better about actually placing my $399 order on Nov. 12 if the capabilities are documented through open access video, and with children doing the demonstrations.
By the way, I don't expect perfection in the first mass produced XOs. There should not be any known hardware defects, but it is acceptable to me that optimizations of the software, upgrades, and new applications and content will be part of the future.
Regards,
John Kintree
