Why not distributed backups?: laptops could interconnect with wifi
(without a server needed). So, one laptop could "help" another and store
a partial chunk of a backup (the laptop that "help" could limite the
borrowed space in % or MB). By that, for example one child could store
the today backup in 5 laptops of his/her friends (and inversely).
It could be done easyly I think and they don't need the school server
(at least for backup; perhaps for internet connection)
For the other hand, yes SD slot is a solution, but has a several
problems: for example if a child lost it, as someone comment it. Another
is the stolen problem. And black market?
This is the same problems that we could have with removable flash
device, but with that we have two possibilities: remove the flash and
substitute for another with more capacity or out SD in slot
Always having the two possibility is the better choice: laptops have
more possibilities: they could benefit from old hardware that other
people could have (being SD or old flashes); if only SD slot, then only
one possibility
I don't know about technical motherboard specs, I only suggest an idea.
