Hi

There is a volunteering day on Wednesday 1 September from 10am to 1pm, at
Unitec - in The Hub, Building 180, Mt Albert campus on Carrington Road. Over
20 organisations (including olpc) will be promoting what they do and how
people can assist by volunteering some of their time.

The main aim of the event is to encourage students to see volunteering as a
valid and important part of their career development and to give them the
opportunity to help out in the community. Volunteering can also be the first
step towards employment, as gaining new skills & confidence are valuable
benefits.

Cheryll Martin, CEO of Volunteering Auckland is giving two presentations
(11.15am and 12.30pm) in the Gold lecture theatre (in the hub) entitled
"Volunteering, worth every minute".

Some of the organisations attending the day are: Volunteering Auckland,
Youthline, Auckland Zoo, Special Olympics, Piha Lifeguards, Rugby World Cup,
Auckland City Mission, Refugee Services, Starjam, Budgeting Services,
Citizens Advice Bureau, Habitat for Humanity, Society for the Protection of
Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Conservation Volunteers, Friends of Oakley Creek,
Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), one laptop per child, NZ Society
for the Intellectually Handicapped (IHC NZ) and Friends of the Whau.

If you can come help with the olpc / Sugar booth it would be much
appreciated. :-)
