Hello OLPC and Sugar testers
FYI - head to National Library this weekend with XOs for HackFest - info
below. RSVP to jo.eaton at natlib.govt.nz
A big thanks to NatLib for the free WiFi and all they have offered for this
Saturday.
I will be out of town this weekend, but will definitely be in Wellington the
following two Saturdays and look forward to hearing how it goes and getting
back into our regular testing sessions.
If anyone needs an XO for Saturday give me a call on 021 482229 on Friday to
make arrangements.
Have fun!
Tabitha

Hi Tabitha!
How're you doing?
Brenda mentioned something about the OLPC friends group getting together on
Saturday for a mini hack fest and that you might like to come hang out with
us.
We're having a mini one, too, on Saturday, that we've dubbed HackTest.
I've copied in the details below. If you guys would like to relocate and
help us out, we'd be happy to have you! We're providing a yummy pastry
breakfast, pizza lunch and beer afternoon tea all for free to help fuel
everyone.
Here you go:
We'd like to invite you to the first DigitalNZ Hack_Test_ before we let
loosev on the unsuspecting public with HackFests.
10am-5pm, Saturday 20 June 2009
Lower ground floor conference room, National Library of New Zealand Corner
of
Molesworth & Aitken Streets, Wellington
Come along and
- Give our API a decent thrashing
- Whip up some code samples to help other developers kick-start their own
creations
- Make nice stuff!
- Consume pizza, beer and sugary confections
- Score secret freebies - so secret, even we don't know what they are yet
Bring yourself and your laptop. We'll provide the WiFi.
This is a low-key event - feel free to come along for however long you can,
even just a couple of hours.
RSVP to jo.eaton at natlib.govt.nz
DigitalNZ Search aggregates information about NZ digital content from more
than 40 content providers and makes them available via an API.
You can get a glimpse of what's inside at http://search.digitalnz.org
Here are just a few examples of what you could get up to:
- Image analysis of thumbnails and search by colour
- Build an advanced search based on DigitalNZ facets
- Example mashup with Eventfinder
- Road-test the Ruby Gem
- Extend the DigitalNZ Timeline app from MIT's Simile project
A few designery-CSS-type-folk will also be in attendance, if you would like
to make your app look pretty.
We hope to see you there.
Kind Regards,
Jo Eaton
