[OLPC-Chicago] XO help

I appreciate the help that some of you are trying to offer. My problem is
that I am not technical at all and for the most part do not understand what
you are telling me, including the advice from Jason. I have been able to
load on to the XO Opera but I am only able to get it to launch from the
terminal. I have not been able to get JAVA, Flash or a media player on the
XO, despite spending hours looking at the wiki, reading posts in the help
and support groups, etc.
Again, anyone that has some specific line by line instructions on how to add
JAVA, Flash, a media player and getting Opera into the main menu - it would
be greatly appreciated by me. I was also serious in offering to pay someone
to do this for me if someone has the time available. I also read about a
"batch script" on some sites. Is this something that someone sets up and by
accessing it all of the correct files will download and install correctly?
If so, maybe I can get someone to help me in this way.
Thanks again for your support. JAS

mpg123 or mplayer are both *nix media players that can handle mpeg4 files.
I'm not sure how you could go about getting them for the XO, but they are
both command line interface, so you wouldn't have to do that much to make it
work.

Looking for some help! I carry my XO around the country with me and it is
always the topic of interesting conversations and pledges by others to
contribute to the OLPC cause to make them available to deserving kids
everywhere.
Here is my problem - I must be incredibly dense because no matter how much I
have tried I have not been successful in understanding how to program some
basic stuff that would make the XO incredibly useful for me. For example,
the following are things that I would like the XO to be able to do and from
what I read it is possible if you know how to add the programs (which I do
not).
-media player to play mpeg4 files
-enhanced web browser of some sort
-ability to use a program called GOTOMYPC so that I can connect into my
desktop when traveling
Any ideas on how I can easily download this type of stuff to a USB drive
that I can then just install on the XO?
Anyone interested in earning a few bucks to program this stuff on my XO for
me?
Thanks, JAS
